OUR NEW DIRECTOR OF PROJECTS: A WELDED STEEL TANK PRO
Here at the Think Tank we are excited to announce that the Fisher Tank Company Board of Directors has named Mike Goldberg our first ever Director of Projects! Mike will serve the Fisher Tank Company team, our customers, our subcontractor partners and our Employee Owners, providing leadership and oversight across our project management team.
Mike Goldberg joined the Fisher Tank Company team in 2008 as a Project Manager. With a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Penn State, Mike had a great deal of experience working on the engineering side of large projects, but he’d always had a keen interest in working on the contractor side of things. When his engineering firm downsized, Mike found Fisher Tank Company’s posting for a Project Management position, and a new career was born. Mike immediately jumped into the tank world and set to work learning API 650 and API 653 standards. Mike’s experience working with subcontractors and field personnel in his previous roles proved to be an immediate asset, as did his familiarity with creating and reviewing specifications and construction drawings.
As a Project Manager for Fisher Tank Company, Mike was responsible for overseeing all aspects of our storage tank construction projects, from the the fabrication of the tank components to the final hydrotesting of a completed tank. Project Managers participate in the job from the initial project kickoff meeting through construction meetings, and are responsible for managing subcontractors, drawing reviews, direct customer relations, maintaining project documentation and progress, change orders and invoicing, Above all, Project Managers provide Fisher Customers with a face to face contact who will be the constant throughout the project. Mike quickly became a Project Manager extraordinaire, thriving in the fast-paced, demanding role and helping Fisher Tank develop even better Project Management tools and systems.
When the Company determined that it was time to create a Director of Projects role to oversee and coordinate all projects, Mike was a perfect fit. His time in the trenches as a Project Manager for Fisher Tank along with his extensive experience with engineering firms, subcontractors, field teams and all types of construction projects made him uniquely equipped for the role.
No two days are ever the same in a construction related job, and Mike loves that about his work with Fisher Tank. Meeting owners, customers, subcontractors and engineering firms involved with his different projects is one of Mike’s favorite aspects of the job, as well as working directly with Fisher’s Construction team and the company’s amazing field personnel. As he moves into the Director of Projects role, Mike brings that love for the challenges of the job to every project. Mike sees his new role as an opportunity to “galvanize our entire Project Management organization into one cohesive unit.”
Mike sees working with the entire team to build on our experience, knowledge and strengths, as well as to identify weaknesses and develop the training and expertise needed to improve weaknesses, as key to moving each job, and the entire company, forward.
As an employee-owner, Mike sees this new role as an exceptional opportunity to impact the overall success of the company. “We all have an important individual role to play in the evolution of each project.,” he says, and he feels this new role further empowers him to “to do my best each and every day, not only for myself but for my co-workers and for our customers.”
